The House of Representatives is set to convene later today to vote on a Motion to Vacate the Chair - a proposal from Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) to remove Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) from his leadership position. If Speaker McCarthy loses, he will have to vacate his position, and this will be the first time in history that a Speaker of the House has ever been voted out of office.
However, with a narrow partisan split in the House, it remains unclear exactly what could happen. There is a possibility that some Democrats in at-risk congressional districts could vote in a way that could help Speaker McCarthy, or more Republicans could vote to save Speaker McCarthy than what is projected.
